Both these quilts are made using fabric printed with music.  The horses in the wall quilt are hand drawn, machine appliquéd, machine pieced and quilted with bound edges.  The bed quilt is machine pieced and quilted.  The fabric folded roses are hand appliquéd.  The edges are finished with “Prairie Points.”

Quilt Portraits are created from good quality photographs provided by you. 4x6 inch photographs work well.

Quilt Portraits like Morgan. Meg, and Misty are designed first by creating a sketch, based on a photo. Patterns are made. Fabrics are selected to capture the color and contrast much like when using paint to create a portrait. It is, however, more of a challenge since it requires searching for those fabrics that work in the composition. Paint allows the artist to create whatever color or texture imaginable, but the quilter must search through hundreds of fabrics to accomplish just the right look. The pattern pieces are assembled to a quilt top. A backing is put together with a sandwich of batting. The entire piece is quilted through all three layers with a machine zigzag stitch. The edges are finished with a traditional quilt binding.

Diana likes to add an embroidered name, or in the case of Misty the Goat, a bell or a detail to complete the piece.
